Or Cujo? Or something like Cee-U? NO! Its Q-U-I-O! like Oooh! Quio, a Berlin based MC, singer, performer wants to be misunderstood and taken unseriously. Quio, started MCing in 1997 as MC LOONEY TUNES. She performed with Drum' n Bass and HipHop DJs in Berlin Germany and throughout Europe. In 1998 she met DJ G-SERVE from AUDIOTAXI in WTF together with DJ CHRISTINE LANG. They organized parties named ON BASS TRACKS. Until today QUIO is part of a radio show on Berlin's former Pirate Radio Station TWEN FM, named Underground Essentials. In 1999 Quio met AGF when they both performed in a club. Various collaborations followed. In 2003 they started QUIO. 2004 they released the first 12" on AGF Producktion and here is the full length album of the Quio. AGF and Quio have put together their different musical heritage, to come up with some uniquely new combinations, e.g. they mixed Drum&Bass MC lyrics with piano and strings into a melancholy anthem, and hiphop lyrics with experimental beats and a blues guitar. The album was created during the last 2 years while QUIO was being operated by 2 children aged 1 1Ú2 and 3. She likes to explore what is misunderstood and break up what supposedly makes sense. In misunderstandings she sees both the chance to have performer and listener create something new, and to put into question the perception of understanding something the ãwrongÒ or ãrightÒ way. Quio is against seriousness when it is used as a tool of dominance, in the way that seriousness gives weight, means truth, means realness. Never wanting to impose meaning. She writes against preconceptions and boxing people in, especially women into premade schemes. Quio is a fan of the moment of surprise. She will break unbearable content into amusing snippets of new sense - or break up nonsense and stitch together a new unquestionable world of seriousness with its own set of clichees and idiotic rolemodels. Her backround as MC to all sorts of broken beats like a like DrumnBass, UK Garage, HipHop, Grime etc. has given her the ability to (secretly) keep her lyrics so unreal. In her music she moves from club to pop to toon and likes to oscillate between hiphop, bubblegum and experimental grooves. You get me? Please don«t! Make yourself up, cause I won«t! There is never just one side to QUiO. Quio gets bored pretty quickly, so if she wants to be taken seriously all of a sudden you are allowed to twist her nose. ARTIST COMMENTS Gliding is a track where Quio uses her live Drum«n«Bass lyrics to show where she is coming from. To get them off her chest and make room for the tracks to come. Chorusses are being performed by 15-year old singer Lise, luring the listener away into a deepening and soulful vibe. Masterpiece is quio gone male. Being inspired by other MC«s way of behaving, quio takes the piss and at the same time plunges happily in the same attitude. Later in the track she gets additional support by a singer, remaining mysteriously unnamed. Rounding off the title she quotes Darius James: ÒIf you havent pissed off some people (Stop! I see!) you havent done the job properly.Ò Berlin City an MC track, produced by audiotaxi. Introducing the Underground Essentials radioshow of quio, DJ G-Serve and MC Chubba, quio flows through her current MC rhymes, alternated by agfs super-hooky chorusses. And while mother goose collects the clues, audiotaxi have put together this friendly-funny-evil track. Great a greek string guitar together with a melodica bring a tension to this track that coincides with that experienced in difficult relationships. Felt and performed by quio and Lise. Innocent Here agf, lise and quio have flopped on a sattee and take turns in asking themselves what might bet he reason for falling out of innocence. So Dazed a sweet and melancholy tune about a difficult love affair, perfect for a drive through nature with sad reminiscences of the transitoriness of love and summer time on your mind. Mom And Wife a track about the clicheed role models that stifle your flow of living, examined from both quio and lise. With upbeat 2steppy beats and soothing, hope raising guitars. RQM-skit Here quio tried to get RQM to do one of his appraised freestyles, but ended up having to do it herself with an exquisite beatboxing set of the afore mentioned. Lempapa This audio production has been taken over by the juvenile performers and operators of quio: Lempapa and Nanie. On bass is Dr. Data, also performing in quios day to day life as mister bassline. Agf added the uptempo beats where quio manages to escape the grip of the minors only once to perform a brief-but-to-the-point MC rhyme. Gazon Gasolina is taken from quios 12Ò. She talks about the dangers of running around with a head as big as a big as a balloon in a tonguetwister toon stylee. Flexible Cat Quio talks about her true nature as a flexible cat. Where a hit on the head triggers an adaptation to different musical styles and waves a good bye to being ãrealÒ. Me Shoes-Skit As quio is a trainers afficionado this is an ode to her shoes over the beats of a kiddies drum machine. My friend is where quio is trying to get away from an all too tempting friend.
